So Norman’s fever went up yesterday, his platelet level has dropped again by about 5000. Dr Chretin feels confident that he’s making platelets, just not at a fast enough pace. He thinks it is most likely to do with his fever and his body battling whatever virus he is dealing with. After a transfusion they are very susceptible to everything just like being an infant. So fevers are not uncommon, but it’s really hindering his platelet making. He’s about 6 days behind where we hoped he would be by now.
They are ordering platelets today in case he needs another transfusion tomorrow. If His platelet levels are higher tomorrow morning, he can go home, if lower he will need a transfusion again, then we’ll have to wait until Monday to see the trend of his platelets. If higher he can be released, if not he will need to have another stem cell infusion which is quite pricey, and will mean he will need to stay a lot longer for recovery from that. They say the shipping alone is upwards of $1000 because it must be shipped in a barrel of liquid nitrogen.
The staff atVCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospitall has been incredible. I’m so glad we decided to come here. If he had gone elsewhere to have this procedure, they wouldn’t have the access to platelets and he would have had to be transfused with whole blood. Since Norman is having issues with this it would’ve been a lot more complicated. I feel confident that he is in the best place possible to help him through this.
Our costs have jumped up significantly we are well above $50,000. I want to thank all of you for the incredible support and checking in on his progress. If I forget to post I’m amazed at the amount of messages I get checking on him. It means so much knowing so many people care about Norman. I also want to thank all those who contributed to help Norman. So many of you have been way more than generous. I truly appreciate all your help. It’s incredible!!!. I can’t thank you all enough for all you have done. I’ve tried contacting as many people individually as possible to thank them but Go fund me doesn’t give me private information. I searched for many of you on Facebook and gotten in touch. For those of you I could not reach please know how grateful we are.
I must say with all the incredible friend, family and fan support I’m disappointed that the companies that Norman has worked with and representated for years have done nothing to help him. Not even checked in to see how he is doing!!!!!!! If anybody wants to send them a message via social media maybe that would help them rethink their decision to ignore their loyal spokesdog of over 5 years.
I’m posting this here hoping you all can share it. I’m not asking for more contributions from all who have helped just a share to spread the word to other dog lovers who have enjoyed Norman’s videos. Thank you again for all the incredible support. It is more than we ever could have imagined. It’s helping both Norman and myself get through what is almost a month of being away from home. ❤️❤️❤️
